Bulimi is a Ugandan social enterprise that helps smallholder farmers establish and manage cocoa farms, access quality planting material and inputs, and connect dried cocoa beans to markets.
The first pilot is planned in selected communities in Kyenjojo District. Future expansion to neighbouring districts will depend on pilot evidence, suitability, local engagement and operational capacity.
Eligibility depends on being in a current operating area, dedicating at least one suitable acre, having a clear right to use the land, attending training and committing to maintain the garden.
A minimum area helps make training, extension, logistics, records and future aggregation practical while creating a meaningful long-term farm enterprise.
No. Registration expresses and records interest. Seedling allocation depends on eligibility, plot preparation, training completion, planting schedules and nursery supply.
Training covers cocoa establishment and farm management including land preparation, planting, shade, soil care, pruning, pest and disease management, safe input use, harvesting and post-harvest quality.
Bulimi plans to improve last-mile access to selected organic fertilizers and organic pesticides at subsidised prices where available. Not every input is free.
Bulimi's market-access model is designed to purchase quality dried cocoa beans from participating farmers, aggregate volumes and sell to exporters. Purchases depend on quality, operating capacity and current market conditions.
Beans must meet quality requirements including appropriate fermentation where required, thorough drying, cleanliness and freedom from mould, smoke and foreign matter.
No responsible buyer can guarantee the highest price at all times. Bulimi aims for competitive, transparent pricing through quality, organized volume and buyer relationships.
No. Using an organic input does not by itself create organic certification. Bulimi will only claim certification when it is formally achieved.
Cocoa commonly begins producing around the third year under suitable conditions. Bulimi plans around a multi-year establishment period and does not guarantee a specific harvest date.

Bulimi intends to screen plots against forest, protected land and wetlands; confirm land-use consent; promote safe inputs; protect farmer data; prevent child labour; and encourage participation by women and young people.
